To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something els is an accomplishment.
R. W. Emerson.

I like people because of their familiar shapes. A story can be told through gesture and a glance. I can use people to tell my story. It is very personal. When people glance at these works my hope is that we share something universal and humane.
“Ironic”
This is a drawing of an Egyptian scarab, the symbol of self creation. Ironically the scarab is also a dung beetle. An unlikely hero in todays culture. I really like this juxtaposition and implied humility. Drawn in ballpoint pen (a free artist material in the U.S.) and mounted on a sheet of plywood, makes this a particularly democratic work of art.
